Fordson Tractor

Welcome to the sale of this Ford Major 4000 tractor.
This was acquired by us as part of our permanent collection in 1998, and underwent all necessary works at that time to bring it up to our standards with a view
to it staying with us
rather than being sold. However, 20 years down the line our plans have changed slightly, so this one is up for sale to another good home.
The tractor as purchased was complete and sound, but a bit scruffy cosmetically, and is a local Devon machine. The hours recorded are believed to be genuine.
We used it for a few months to ascertain what mechanical works were needed, and these were then done prior to a professional sand-blast and respray.
We did not keep photographic records etc of what was done, as we did not intend to sell it, but the only major thing we did to it was an engine rebuild,
otherwise it is all original.
Bodily, all the panels are the ones it left the factory with and are unwelded.
The only items on the tractor apart from 'service items' that have been replaced are one rear light (a genuine Ford item, purchased at great
expense at the Dorset Steam Fair) and the
cab canvas which was missing when we bought it, and which we had made by a local coach trimmers to the original design, and the 'Ford Major' transfer
which we had custom made by a local signwriter as they were not available at the time.
Everything on the tractor is correct. Nothing has been changed or swapped round. Its not a 'bitsa', and there are no repro items on it. It is in factory spec.
Since its restoration, it has done light hauling, a bit of topping and baling, and not much else. Probably 20 hours work in 20 years is all its done.
Its starts instantly as it should. It runs fine. All the gears, clutch, brakes, hydraulics, lights etc work as per original spec.
There are no oil leaks, funny noises, rattles or items needing attention.
We have the PTO guard although its not on the tractor in the photo's.
We have a V5 for it.
Paintwork has aged and patinated over the period, so it now looks like a good working tractor rather than a show winning concours restoration, which in my
opinion is the way tractors should be.
